How To's
How To Read Casting Numbers
| There Are Three Places to look | |
| Intake Manifold | |
| Cylinder Heads | |
| Block |
| The first character of the number is the decade in which part was produced. |
|
| A-1940's | |
| B-1950's | |
| C-1960's | |
| D-1970's | |
| E-1980's |
| The 2nd character tells us what
year of that decade part was produced. Using my example says that the D1VE part was manufactured in the year 1971. |
| The 3rd character tells us what
model of car/truck part was designed for. |
||
| (A) full size Ford | ||
| (C) Torino/Elite | ||
| (J) Industrial engine | ||
| (M) Mercury | ||
| (S) Thunderbird | ||
| (T) Truck | ||
| (U) Econoline van | ||
| (V) Lincoln. |
| The 4th character tells what
division released the part. |
|
| (A) Chassis div. | |
| (B) Body div. | |
| (E) engine division. | |
| (M) SVO Motorsport div. | |
| (X) Former muscle parts or SVO production. |
| There are base codes that
designate what type of engine part we have. On all these parts there is a smaller 4 digit number that tells us the day of manufacture, example 6O15. |
| 1st character is again year
of the decade. |
| 2nd character is the month
code. They go in alphabetical order(except they leave out the letter "I") |
|
| A- Jan. | |
| B- Feb. | |
| C-March | |
| and so on. |
| 3rd & 4th characters
are the day code, our's is 15. |
RPM's
With stock rod bolts and cast pistons I wouldn't go much past 5,000 RPM. With ARP rod bolts on CJ or truck rods and some good forged pistons, you can rev to 6,200-6,500 RPM safely. From reports I hear.Coonecting Rods
